Free Educational Websites

This page is a work in progress, but I wanted to go ahead and post it with many of you entering spring break.  Some of these sites are new to me.   I will include explanations for each learning site, as I have time to explore them. If you are familiar with educational sites that you would like to share, please comment!!

Games for young children:
kidsdinos.com - Children can create their own dinosaur, play various matching games, and learn about dinosaur classification.  This site also features a different dinosaur each week.
starfall.com - If you're not familiar with starfall, you are really missing out.  Great for mouse skills, learning letters and sounds, kids love starfall.  My youngest, if allowed, would spend hours playing and learning.
kidsmemory.com
learningplanet.com - lots of games for little ones
Pattern Block Play - In this open ended activity, children can place, move, and change the color of pattern blocks.
Kindersite - various games for children K-3
primarygames.com - lots of games, multiple subjects
Preschool and Kindergarten games - colors, shapes, numbers
Kids Corner - animal games

Language Arts - Spelling
spellingcity.com - My daughter loves this site.  After entering you child's spelling words, he/she can take practice spelling quizzes, enjoy simple spelling lessons, and play games.  This site has transformed our spelling lessons from bland, to fun!  (Thank you Sara, for sharing this terrific site.)
kidsspell.com -  This site gives you the opportunity to use one of their many spelling lists (starting with very simple words) or customize your own.  One thing I like about this site is that it offers games for various ages, beginning with Kindergarten.
spellingtime.com
